Terms of Business
Last updated: 24 April 2026
These are our standard terms of business. They apply to all work we do for you, together with any engagement letter or client care letter we send when we agree to take your matter on. If there’s any conflict, the engagement letter wins.
Who we are
Abrahams (Yorkshire) Limited is a company registered in England & Wales and authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA number 809071). Our registered office is Suite 10, Atlas House, 1 King Street, London EC2V 8AU.
Our service
We will act with reasonable care and skill, keep you updated, and explain anything we think you need to know before decisions are made. You’ll be told up front who is responsible for your matter and how to contact them.
Fees
Our current fee structure is on our fees page. Before we start we’ll confirm your fees in writing. Most immigration work is on a fixed fee; housing disrepair and personal injury work is typically no win, no fee. VAT is added where applicable. Disbursements (court fees, counsel, expert reports) are billed at cost.
Payment
Our invoices are payable within 14 days. We accept BACS, card and cheque. If an invoice isn’t settled we may charge interest at 8% above the Bank of England base rate under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.
Identity and anti-money laundering
Before we start work we’re required by law to verify your identity. We’ll tell you what we need. Source of funds checks are required for any transaction involving money.
Equality and data
We treat all clients fairly regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion or sexual orientation. How we handle your personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with our service, please tell us first. Our complaints partner will respond within eight weeks. If you’re not satisfied with the outcome you can contact the Legal Ombudsman (within six months of our final response) at legalombudsman.org.uk, 0300 555 0333.
Professional indemnity insurance
We carry professional indemnity insurance as required by the SRA. Details of our insurer are available on request.
File storage
We keep your file for at least six years after the matter closes. After that we may destroy it securely unless you ask us to return it to you.
Ending the retainer
You can end our retainer at any time in writing. We can also end it in limited circumstances (for example, if you don’t give us instructions or fail to pay). You’ll remain liable for fees incurred up to the point of termination.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of its courts.
